Itinerary
1
Visit Þingvellir National Park, home to Iceland’s first parliament, founded in 930 and one of the oldest in the world. Walk through a dramatic rift valley shaped by the meeting of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.
2
Visit the Geysir geothermal area, home to hot springs, bubbling mud pools, and Strokkur, which erupts every few minutes. Travelers can enjoy one of Iceland’s most famous natural sights and see the power of its volcanic landscape up close.
3
Visit Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most famous and powerful waterfalls. Watch the glacial river plunge in two stages into a deep canyon and enjoy dramatic views, roaring water, and one of the highlights of the Golden Circle.
Gullfoss, meaning “Golden Falls,” is said to get its name from the golden glow and rainbow-filled mist that often surrounds the waterfall on sunny days.
